The European Commission's Digital Markets Acts rules came into force on November 1st.
❓What does it mean for gamedev and digital videogame distribution? At 1D3, we see two major implications worth your utmost attention.
✅First of all, with DMA rules applied, Apple will have to allow us to download and install games (and other apps) not only from App Store but also from third-party sources like marketplaces or websites. This way, you'll be able to distribute your iOS game via 1D3 WebStore, save a huge deal on commissions and still offer your game to Apple's loyal audience.
✅Second, the developers will no longer be locked in Apple's or Google's proprietary payment system, which will allow competition for processing in-game payments, bringing more players into the game and, ultimately, reducing the digital distribution costs for the developers. The DMA rules begin to apply on May 2nd, 2023, so you still have time to get ready and take full advantage of the new legislation.
